I can’t believe this happened. But it did!
Last week, YCombinator (the top startup incubator in the world) flew me, all expenses paid, to decide whether to invest $150K in Palocam.
Palocam is an invention of mine that allows anyone to record soccer games from above by climbing a metallic pole! (see how it works here)
I was interviewed by Eric Migicovsky, the creator of Pebble (the first mass-produced smart watch) also known for running the most successful Kickstarter campaign in history (over $20 million).
Eric loved Palocam but he was concerned I had made no sales so far. I explained I didn’t have enough time since I literally built the first prototype (out of Lego) a few weeks ago.
Well, Eric had a point and so did I, but he is the gate keeper and I’m not soo…
Their next batch starts in January, this means I have only 3 weeks to show Eric the world wants Palocam.
Here is where you can help my dear Grumo reader.
I know many of you either play soccer, have kids that play soccer, or know someone that plays soccer and would love a simple and affordable way to record their games from above without having to hire an expensive videographer or piloting an annoying drone (and when I say soccer I also mean any other outdoor team sport: rugby, American football, field hockey, etc.)
Let’s show Eric I’m not the only one that thinks Palocam is awesome and that YCombinator would be missing out on a great opportunity if they passed on this investment.
How? very simple pre-buy 1 or 2 or 10 Palocams today. I will commit to delivering them to you anywhere in the world before the end of March 2019.

No risk. If I can’t deliver on time I’ll refund you in full.
If I deliver, you’ll be part of an exclusive group to own the first pole-climbing camera in the world (oh yeah!)
I’m sure you’ll have many questions about how it works and what it can do or not do.
As a quick summary here are the main FAQ:
- Price: $159 for early backers only (After Dec 19th price will go up to $199)
- Discounts available if you buy 5 or more (email me for details)
- Total units available: Since this is the first run I don’t plan to offer more than 100 units.
- Works only on steel poles (95% of poles on soccer fields are made of steel)
- It’s as easy to use as a remote controlled car (my 7 year old niece learned to use it in under a minute)
- It can steer around obstacles on poles (most poles have electrical boxes)
- Battery life is around 2 hours (enough for most soccer games)
- Camera is not included as it depends on your preference. I’m using a GoPro Session 5 (buy for as low as $115).
- Camera works wirelessly (if you use a GoPro). This means you can set up the shot remotely!
- No Pan and Tilt. The GoPro shoots at a wide angle field of view that captures most of the game without need of pan and tilt
- No zoom. but if you shoot at 4K you can zoom 2X and still be at 1080p which is standard high definition video.
- It’s not water proof but it works on rainy days (as long as they are not too rainy)
- Why not a drone? Short battery life (<30mins), need permits, can’t handle bad weather, annoying!
- Shipping costs not included (I’ll find the most affordable way to get it to you asap)
- 100% refund guarantee. All your money back if you don’t get yours before March 31st, 2019.
