Description
Palocam is the world’s first pole-climbing solution for sports analysis. It helps you capture all the action from 30 feet or higher without a drone or a camera operator.
The best way to capture all the action is from above. Videographers are expensive, tripods are heavy and too low, and drones need permits, have short battery life and are annoying. Palocam is the most affordable solution to record your games like the pros.
What’s new?
Palocam Eagle II is our newest pole-climbing device with much better reliability, performance, and safety over the previous generation.
The new version has double lifting capacity (it can carry larger cameras) and double magnetic pull (more secure).
It uses two high-torque DC motors instead of one which are used for both climbing and steering.
We’ve ditched the previous physical remote with a mobile app that works on both Android and iOS devices.
After listening to customer feedback, we’ve also ditched the pan and tilt feature. Pan adjusting is achieved by simply positioning the unit around the pole pointing at the desired location.
Overall, it uses about 50% less parts (more reliable) and it’s much more rugged than its processor thanks to its CNC machined aluminum chassis (instead of 3D printed plastic).
Features
Works only on steel poles (95% of poles on soccer fields are made of steel)
Minimum pole diameter it can climb is 5.5 inches (14 cm)
It takes about 60 seconds to climb 33 feet (10 meters)
Remote controlled via mobile app (Android/iOS)
It can steer around obstacles on poles (most poles have electrical boxes)
Battery life is around 4 hours (enough for most soccer games)
Super strong permanent magnets keep it firmly attached (even if it runs out of battery)
Compatible with all GoPro cameras (or similar)
Maximum camera weight it can carry is about 500 grams (all GoPros weigh less than that)
Camera works wirelessly (if you use a GoPro). This means you can set up the shot remotely!
No zoom but if you shoot at 4K you can zoom 2X and still be at 1080p which is standard high definition video.
It’s not water proof but it works on rainy days (as long as they are not too rainy)

FAQ
What happens if Palocam runs out of battery?
Palocam uses very powerful permanent magnets which attach with up to 3kg of force to the poles (watch video). If your Palocam runs out of batteries, you can rest assured the unit will stay strongly attached to the pole.
What happens if Palocam gets stuck on the pole?
Palocam comes with a safety retrieval cord. If your Palocam gets stuck or runs after batteries, you can lower it by pulling no the safety cord.
Do I need two Palocams to cover the entire pitch?
Depending on the sport you record, camera you use, and where you position your Palocam, you may be able to capture the entire field. However, some customers prefer to order two Palocams to record each side of the field separately.
Does Palocam use AI to auto-follow the play?
No. Palocam simply allows you to lift your camera up a pole. Depending on the camera technology you use, you may be able to get it to follow the play. Or you can use a tool like AutoCam to process the video to add auto-follow, zoom, pan & tilt automatically (use code palocam for 10% off on AutoCam)
We already use Veo or Spiideo, does it make sense to also get Palocam?
If you already have a permanent system to record games, you may don’t need Palocam. However, if you want a cheaper and more portable solution to record training sessions or away games, Palocam could be a great alternative.
What camera do you recommend to use with Palocam?
We recommend using a GoPro or similar sports camera, but you can use any camera as long as it weighs less than 500 grams. If you want to use a GoPro camera, we recommend to use a GoPro 7 or higher.
What are the ideal settings for GoPro?
The ideal resolution is 2.5K or higher. At 4K, you’ll be able to capture more detail but the battery life will decrease considerably. If you want to extend the GoPro’s battery life, you can attach a small external battery pack to your Palocam using velcro (make sure the overall weight of the GoPro + battery pack doesn’t exceed 500 grams)
How long can it record video for?
Palocam doesn’t record video. Palocam is a device that can carry a camera up any metallic surface (typically a light pole), so how long can it record depends on the camera that you use. If you use newer GoPro camera, you can record up to 1 hour 45 minutes at 1080p 60fps. The higher the resolution and frame rate the less your camera battery will last.
How long do the Palocam batteries last?
Palocam uses lithium ion rechargeable batteries which can last up to 6 hours in stand by mode. The batteries will last less the more you use its motors to drive up a pole and the heavier the load, but typically, your camera will run out of batteries much faster than the Palocam unit itself.
How do I edit the video?
You can use any video editing software to edit your video (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, ScreeFlow, etc.) Alternatively, you can use tools like AutoCam to generate play auto-follow, zoom, pan & tilt.
How safe is Palocam? What happens it if falls?
Palocam uses very powerful permanent magnets attach our units with up to 3kg of force to the poles (watch video). Just in case, we always recommend using Palocam on a pole where there are little or no people around. Also, it’s important that everyone knows to stay about 10 ft away from the pole.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Your Palocam unit comes with a 120 day limited warranty (read our warranty)
